Scouting Report:
Daniil Lazutin is one of the more-hyped 2021 Russians in this class and is certainly one of the most well-rounded centers to come out of Russia in years. In his rookie MHL season, the forward collected four goals, seven assists, and 11 points through 32 games. At the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, he dominated, finishing second in the tournament in points (four goals, five assists, nine points in six games), helping the team to a gold medal and he was named to the All-Star Team. Lazutin oozes skill, he has quick hands that he loves to get creative with. He’s crafty and elusive, allowing him to slip by defenders and go one-on-one with the netminder. Then he does the same to the goalie and gets a highlight-reel goal. Lazutin is a capable goal scorer and he can also set others up for good scoring chances. He reads the play in the offensive zone so well, making him a very dynamic threat in the attacking zone. At 6-foot-2, he does know how to use his big body very effectively. He uses it to protect the puck well, positioning his body between defenders and the puck. Also, Lazutin is a very well-rounded two-way forward. He moves around the neutral zone with ease to disrupt passing lanes and apply heavy pressure to his opponents. Daniil will need to work on his offensive consistency if he wants to be a 1st round pick in the 2021 draft, but in terms of overall talent, he certainly does have 1st round talent. Because of the Russian factor and his lack of offensive production, Lazutin can be a late 2nd round pick.
Skill:
A Dynamic, Two-Way Center with great hands, creativity, and offensive talent.
Style Comparison: Artem Anisimov
