After the conclusion of the 2024 NHL Draft, I think it is time to do a much-needed update of every NHL team’s Prospect Pool, as the most recent draft and players that have moved on to play in the NHL roster may have changed the prospect pools from the 2023 list. The Ranking will be from Worst to Best, 32 to 1.

32. Boston Bruins
Top Prospects: Fabian Lysell, Dean Letourneau, Dans Locmelis, Elliott Groenewold, Brett Harrison

The Boston Bruins’ prospect pool is considered to be one of the weaker ones in the NHL. Their focus on winning now has meant trading away draft picks for established veterans. Fabian Lysell is their clear-cut best prospect, but he’s their only right winger of significant note. Other Notable prospects in the system are Dans Locmelis and Brett Harrison, who have shown promise and could have a future in the NHL In the 2024 NHL Draft, the Bruins drafted two of their better prospects, 6 foot 7 center, Dean Letourneau and Defenseman Elliott Groenewold, a solid two-way defenseman, who could be a steal selected in the fourth round of the draft. Overall, the Bruins lack elite prospects across the board. They’ll need strong development from their current crop and future draft picks to replenish the talent pipeline.
31. Tampa Bay Lightning
Top Prospects: Ethan Gauthier, Jack Thompson, Isaac Howard, Hugo Alnefelt, Dylan Duke, Niko Huuhtanen

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s prospect pool, while not the deepest in the league, boasts a few intriguing young players who could contribute in the coming seasons. Isaac Howard, drafted in 2022, is a skilled playmaker with a strong offensive game. After a middling season at the NCAA level, he’s looking to bounce back at Michigan State. Besides Howard, other notable forwards include Ethan Gauthier and Dylan Duke, who could be solid role players in the NHL.
Niko Huuhtanen, a late-round pick in 2021, has impressed with his goal-scoring prowess. He’s climbed the rankings with strong performances in Finland’s top league. Jack Thompson is the Lightning’s top defensive prospect and has experience in the AHL but needs to solidify his defensive game for NHL consideration. Hugo Alnefelt, the top Goalie prospect, has shown promise in the AHL. While not a surefire starter, he could develop into a reliable backup option.
Overall, the Lightning’s prospect pool is focused on quality over quantity. Their championship window remains open, so immediate NHL impact might not be the priority. However, Howard, Huuhtanen, Duke, Gauthier, and Alnefelt have the potential to become valuable contributors in the near future.
30. Ottawa Senators
Top Prospects: Carter Yakemchuk, Mads Soogard, Jorian Donovan, Egor Solokov, Zack Ostapchuk, Tomas Hamara, Tyler Boucher

A few seasons ago, the Ottawa Senators boasted one of the best prospect pools in the league, but now most of their top prospects have graduated to play in the NHL, leaving their prospect pool depleted. The Strength of the Senators’ prospect pool is their defense, with the most recent selection of Carter Yakemchuk, a prolific offensive defenseman in the 2024 NHL Draft and Tomas Hamara, another top defensive prospect. Their Top forward prospects
include Jorian Donovan, Zach Ostapchuk, Egor Solokov and Tyler Boucher, who all have the potential to be middle-six forwards in the league but they won’t be top-end talent. Mads Soogard is the top goaltender prospect in the pipeline, but he will have to wait at least another year before he gets a chance to play in the NHL, since the Senators acquired Linus Ullmark to tandem with Anton Forsberg. For a team that has missed the playoffs and has drafted
high in recent years, for them have such a poor prospect pool, reflects how poor their scouting has been.
29. Florida Panthers
Top Prosepcts: Gracyn Sawchyn, Ludvig Jansson, Kasper Puutio, Michael Benning, Justin Sourdif
The Florida Panthers boast a solid prospect pool but with Mackie Samoskevich projected to be on the main roster, their prospect pool looks a lot thinner. The top prospect for the Florida Panthers is Gracyn Sawchyn, a highly touted 2023 draft pick, a skilled center with strong two-way play. He might need some time to develop in the WHL, but has high potential. Justin Sourdif is a creative offensive player, while Ryan McAllister (C) brings a strong work ethic and leadership qualities. Michael Benning is a steady, two-way defenseman, and Evan Nause has good offensive upside. Other top prospects for the Panthers included Ludvig Jansson and Kasper Puutio. While the top prospects are promising, the overall depth of the pool might need further development to produce consistent NHL contributors. Unfortunately for the Panthers, they have mortgaged most of their future picks in order to win a stanley cup, so it
is likely that the prospect is going to continue to look thin compared to other teams.
28. New York Islanders
Top Prospects: Cole Eiserman, Danny Nelson, William Dufour, Samuel Bolduc, Matthew Maggio, Cameron Berg, Quinn Finley

Before the 2024 Draft, the New York Islanders’ prospect pool was on the rise, boasting intriguing young talent but lacked a clear-cut superstar. In the 2024 Draft, the Islanders drafted Cole Eiserman, a prospect who was once considered a top 5 prospect before the 2023-24 season. Eiserman is a a pure goal scorer, who is exactly what the Islanders need but he needs to improve on other aspects of his game. Danny Nelson, a Center, drafted in 2023, stands out with his size, hockey IQ, and offensive potential. Cameron Berg (C) brings a goal-scoring touch, while Quinn Finley (D) showcases strong all-around play after successful seasons. William Dufour is a big-bodied power forward with a knack for putting up points. Other prospects to watch for are Samuel Bolduc and Matthew Maggio, who could be promising prospects as well. The Islanders lack a clear future starting goaltender in their system, but they have Ilya Sorokin locked up for 8 years and Varlamov for the next couple of years as well, so goaltending isn’t an issue. The New York Islanders have a good mix of young players with diverse skillsets. However, it might take a few years for these prospects to develop into impactful NHL contributors.
27. Edmonton Oilers
Top Prospects: Matt Savoie, Xavier Bourgault, Matvei Petrov, Beau Akey, Sam O’Reilly. Shane Lachance, Desmond Sherwood, Eemil Vinni

The Edmonton Oilers’ prospect pool shows promise but lacks elite depth compared to some other teams. Acquired via trade from Buffalo, Matt Savoie is a highly skilled forward with a well-rounded offensive game. He could become a top-six forward in the NHL. In addition to Savoie, other top forwards to look out for are Xavier Bourgault, their first round pick in 2021 and Matvei Petrov, a highly skilled Russian forward with top 6 potential. Selected in the 2024 draft, Sam O’Reilly is an incredibly intelligent two-way center with solid playmaking tools but his most valuable asset is his versatility and ability to play both center and wing. Shane Lachance is a skilled winger with offensive upside, and could be on the cusp of NHL action. With Philip Broberg graduating to the main roster, the Top defensive prospect is Beau Akey, a solid offensive defenseman. The Oilers have two noteworthy goaltending prospects to watch for,
Desmond Sherwood, considered the Oilers’ goalie prospect of the future, Sherwood is developing in the WHL, and Eemil Vinni is one of the best goalies to come out of the 2024 draft. The Edmonton Oilers prospect pool much like their roster is top-heavy and lacks depth, so their success really hinges on the development of the names at the top of the list.
26. Pittsburgh Penguins
Top Prospects: Brayden Yager, Samuel Poulin, Owen Pickering, Harrison Brunicke, Tanner Howe, Ville Koivunen

The Pittsburgh Penguins, after years of lacking a strong prospect pool, have recently made significant strides in acquiring and developing young talent. Brayden Yager, drafted 14th overall in 2023 is the clear-cut top prospect for the Penguins. This highly skilled center has impressed with his offensive production (nearly a point-per-game pace) and leadership qualities in the WHL. He could potentially challenge for an NHL roster spot soon. Selected 21st overall in 2022, Pickering is a big, mobile defenseman with a strong offensive game. He’s developing his defensive consistency but has the potential to be a top-four NHL defenseman. Recent trades have brought in intriguing prospects like Ville Koivunen (F), a skilled forward with strong offensive upside, and Sam Poulin, their 1st round pick in 2019, who possesses a good scoring touch. In the 2024 Draft, Pittsburgh drafted Harrison Brunicke, a solid two-way defenseman and
Tanner Howe is a gritty but skilled forward, with a top-6 upside. The Penguins’ prospect pool has undergone a significant turnaround. With Yager leading the charge, they have a strong foundation of young talent. The recent acquisitions add depth and potential across various positions and the future looks brighter for the Penguins as these prospects continue to develop.
25. Colorado Avalanche
Top Prospects: Calum Ritchie, Mikhail Gulyayev, Oskar Olausson, Jean-Luc Foudy, Sean Behrens

The Colorado Avalanche, despite being a recent Stanley Cup winner, still has a decent prospect pool to help maintain their championship window. The consensus top prospect for the Avalanche is Calum Ritchie, who was drafted 27th overall in 2023. This highly-touted center is known for his “elite hockey sense” and is credited with turning around his OHL team’s performance this season. Mikhail Gulyayev, D (Omsk, KHL): Another 2023 first-rounder (31st overall), Gulyayev is a big, mobile defenseman playing in the KHL. He’s got good offensive upside and could potentially become a strong two-way defender. A 2020 draft pick, Foudy is a versatile forward who can play center or wing. He’s got good offensive skills and could crack the Avalanche lineup in the future. Oskar Olausson, a speedy two-way winger with a good release, projects to be a solid scoring forward with a top 6 upside. Sean Behrens is a mobile defenseman with good skating skills and a solid two-way game, and projects as a future top 4 defenseman. Because the Colorado Avalanche are in win-now mode and are in search of proven NHL players to complement their star players, so there is a chance a few of these players get moved.
24. Vegas Golden Knights
Top Prospects: Kaeden Korczak, David Edstrom, Lukas Cormier, Trevor Connelly, Matyas Sapovaliv, Pavel Moisevich, Matyas Sapovaliv

The Vegas Golden Knights are known for their aggressive approach to building a contender, and their prospect pool reflects that. The Top Prospect for Vegas and the most NHL-ready prospect is Kaedan Korczak, this stay-at-home defenseman already has some NHL experience under his belt and is considered close to full-time duty. He provides strong defensive play with some hidden offensive potential. After Korczak, the other top prospects include Lukas Cormier, an undersized but highly skilled defenseman, who has impressed offensively in the AHL and the Golden Knights 2023 1st round pick, David Edstrom, a highly intelligent center with strong playmaking abilities playing in the SHL. Another interesting name to pay attention to is Matyas Sapovaliv, this Czech center has a good offensive upside and is playing in the OHL. In the 2024 Draft, Vegas took two players who could be a vital part of their future, Trevor Connelly, a highly skilled and dynamic prospect with top-6 upside and Pavel Moisevich, their top goalie prospect. Although Vegas is considered a contender, they are kinda in a transition phase after losing some key pieces this offseason, so they will need some key prospects to come in and contribute.
23. Toronto Maple Leafs
Top Prospects: Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten, Topi Niemela, Nikita Grebyonkin, Ben Danford

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ prospect pool isn’t considered elite, but they do have some interesting young players on the rise. This breakout star in the OHL might be the Leafs’ top prospect right now. Cowan surprised everyone with a dominant offensive season, leading the OHL in points per game. He’s showing potential as a strong two-way center. The Leafs are thin on defensive prospects, but Niemelä is a bright spot. Playing in Finland’s top league (Liiga), he’s known for his good skating and puck-moving abilities. He’ll need to add some size and strength for the NHL. Fraser Minten became a force for the Saskatoon Blades, scoring 19 goals and 38 points in 36 games after being acquired. The Blades finished the WHL season as the top team in the entire league and top his game in the WHL playoffs scoring 6 goals and 14 points in 16 games. Nikita Grebyonkin is another top prospect for the Maple Leafs, he recorded 19 goals
and 41 points in 67 games during the 2023-24 season playing with the Metallurg Magnitogorsk (KHL) and be an impactful forward if he comes over from Russia. The Toronto Maple Leaf prospect pool lacks a true “elite” talent, but they have some intriguing young players who could develop into important contributors for the team.
22. Los Angeles Kings
Top Prospects: Francesco Pinelli, Koehn Ziemmer, Jakub Dvorak, Liam Greentree, Alex Turcotte

The Los Angeles Kings’ prospect pool has undergone some changes recently with graduations like Brandt Clarke, however, they still boast some exciting young talent. The LA Kings don’t have any high-end prospects on the roster anymore but they do have many solid prospects such as centers Samuel Helenius, a solid two-way center with third-line potential, and Francisco Pinelli, a well-rounded center with good hockey IQ and offensive instincts. Martin Chromiak is known for his speed and offensive creativity, Chromiak could carve out a niche as a depth-scoring winger. Drafted 54th overall in 2023, Dvořák is a big-bodied defenseman who excels in shutdown roles. There’s potential for him to become a reliable second or even high-end third-pairing defenseman. Liam Greentree was the Kings’ first-round pick in 2024 and could very well be the best prospect in the Kings system in terms of potential. Keep an eye on goalies Erik Portillo and Matthew Villalta, along with wingers Alex Laferriere and Alex Turcotte. Their development will be important for the Kings’ future depth. The LA Kings have a somewhat mediocre prospect pool and they need to start developing some stars with some of their core stars like Kopitar and Doughty getting older.
21 Vancouver Canucks
Top Prospects: Tom Willander, Aatu Räty, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Elias Pettersson, Arshdeep Bains

The Vancouver Canucks prospect pool has seen some interesting additions and developments recently. Acquired in the trade for Bo Horvat, Raty is a skilled forward with good size and offensive upside. He’s expected to play a key role in the coming seasons. Drafted 15th overall in 2022, Lekkerimaki is an electrifying offensive winger with impressive speed and puck skills. He’ll need to add strength to his frame for the NHL grind. The Canucks’ top pick (11th overall) in the 2023 draft, Willander is a mobile, offensively-gifted defenseman with a lot of potential. Not to be confused with the star center, this Pettersson is a defensive prospect drafted 80th overall in 2022. He’s known for his strong defensive play and leadership qualities. Arshdeep Bains is a skilled forward with an intriguing combination of size and offensive potential. Vancouver Canucks have some high-quality prospects in the pipeline who might be on the NHL
roster in a few years.
20. New York Rangers
Top Prospects: Gabe Perreault, Brennan Othmann, Adam Sykora, Bryce McConnell-Barker, EJ Emery

The New York Rangers’ prospect pool isn’t quite what it used to be because some of their top prospects have moved up to play in the NHL, but they still have some exciting young talent in the pipeline. Gabe Perreault is the Top Prospect for the Rangers, drafted 23rd overall in 2023, Perreault is known for his high hockey IQ and playmaking ability. He’ll likely spend at least a year at Boston College before turning pro. Brennan Othmann was drafted 16th overall in the 2021 Draft by the NY Rangers, and is a protypical power forward, bringing a lot of size and scoring potential. He got a taste of the NHL in 2023 and could push for a regular spot on the roster soon. Adam Sykora is a highly skilled winger who impressed with his offensive production in the WHL last season. He’ll likely need some time to develop in the AHL before reaching the NHL. Bryce McConnell-Barker is another prospect to watch out for on the Rangers. EJ Emery, the Rangers 1st round pick from the 2024 Draft is a solid Defensive-minded defenseman with a large frame and could step in when Trouba’s contract expires. Because the Rangers are one of the teams who will be tight on cap for the next couple of years, we could see a few of these prospects on the main roster sooner rather than later.
19. Philadelphia Flyers
Top Prospects: Carson Bjarnason, Denver Barkey, Oliver Bonk, Emil Andrae, Jett Luchanko, Daniil Jarventie, Tyson Foester

The Philadelphia Flyers boast a promising prospect pool, recently ranked highly by some analysts. A confident defenseman who will go as far as his tools develop, Oliver Bonk projects best as a defensive defenseman as currently constructed. Denver Barkey is an incredibly fun, skilled, and shifty undersized forward with high-end playmaking abilities, a constant motor, and an inside-driven mindset and could top out as a top 6 forward. Drafted 54th overall in 2020, Andrae is a mobile, offensively-gifted defenseman who could become a key part of the Flyers’ future blue line. Drafted 23rd overall in 2020, Foerster is a strong two-way forward with a good shot. He’ll be looking to take the next step in his development. This Finnish defenseman, acquired in a trade in 2023, brings good size and skating ability. He has the potential to be a well-rounded NHL defenseman. Athletic goaltender with good size and play-reading ability but has potential as an NHL goalie. Jett Luchanko was the Flyers 1st round pick in the 2024 Draft and is an excellent two-way center who fits the mold of a Flyer, it won’t be long before he makes an impact for the NHL club. 18. New Jersey Devils
Top Prospects: Anton Silayev, Seamus Casey, Arseni Gritsyuk, Lenni Hameenaho, Mikhail Yegorov, Chase Stillman

The New Jersey Devils have been busy building a strong prospect pool in recent years. With Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec being full-time NHL players this season, the Devils need to restock the prospect pool and they certainly have done that with the selection of Anton Silayev with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 Draft and Mikhail Yegorov, who was viewed by many scouts as the top goalie prospect in the draft. Arseni Gritsyuk is the wildcard of the Devils’ prospect pool, his offensive upside is undeniable. If he can adapt to the North American game, he could become a key scorer for the Devils, if and when he comes over from the KHL. Seamus Casey is an under-the-radar prospect, drafted 46th overall in 2022, and impressed in his freshman year at the University of Michigan. He’s a strong two-way defenseman with a bright future. Chase Stillman is an offensive winger with good potential but needs some refinement in the AHL. Lenni Hameenaho is a solid complementary winger who excels battling around the net and along the boards. Could grow into a solid middle-six NHL forward with added pace. Overall, the New Jersey Devils’ prospect pool is one of the stronger ones in the NHL. With a mix of high-end talent and developing depth pieces, the future looks bright for the Devils.
17. Washington Capitals
Top Prospects: Ryan Leonard, Ryan Chesley, Andrew Cristall, Vincent Iorio, Terik Parascak, Cole Hutson
