Strengths
1. Dean has superb hockey IQ and his compete level is excellent. He maximizes the most out of what he has because of how hard he works every shift.
2. He has tremendous puck skills; his puck-on-a-string skill helps him weave through traffic and drive a line. In tight spaces, Dean regularly beats defenders and goalies one-on-one.
3. Dean has great speed and puck pursuit skills that allows him to win loose puck races and create turnovers in all zones.

Zachary Dean had a solid rookie season in the QMJHL with the Gatineau Olympiques last season, tallying 18 goals, 28 assists, and 46 points in 57 games. So far this season, he has 6 goals and 10 points in 15 games. Dean is rated highly though because of his hockey IQ and his compete level; he maximizes the most out of what he has because of how hard he works every shift. Dean displays great puck skills, and great vision along which complements his game very well. He is a smooth skater who possesses a heavy release and can shoot the puck hard from distance with success. Dean is tough to knock off the puck for a player his size. He retrieves loose pucks efficiently and quickly passes them to teammates in new areas and is a good puck distributor. Although Dean has pretty solid in all three zones, he does need to improve a bit on his defensive zone awareness. Zachary Dean looks like he could be a late 1st or early 2nd round pick in the 2021 draft.
