Justin Carbonneau is a promising right-wing prospect from Lévis, Quebec, standing at 6’1″ and weighing 192 pounds, currently plays for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the QMJHL and is eligible for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Carbonneau is on pace to eclipse 80 points this season. He’s a very crafty forward who has the skill to make plays in traffic, through skates and over opponents’ sticks, on the way to the net. Carbonneau is a bit of a wide-track skater but it doesn’t hold him back. He plays the game plenty quick enough and drives play in transition. He averages 21 minutes per game of ice time in Blainville. Almost all of his time on the ice comes at even strength and power play. I appreciate how involved he is. He isn’t a perimeter player who waits out offense. He takes charge and competes to make an impact. He drives play in transition with great underlying metrics and has emerged as one of his league’s most lethal shooters and prolific goal scorers. Carbonneau is gritty and determined to make an impact on both ends of the ice. However, his hockey IQ and top-end speed have raised concerns for his floor. At the NHL level, he projects as a middle-6 scoring winger. Carbonneau is projected to be a late first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, with the potential to develop into a second-line winger at the NHL level.

All of these things add up to a promising future offensively. Carbonneau’s game has a lot of high-end attributes. He’s a Great skater with an Excellent shot release and has a bit of an edge, at times. Carbonneau loves to make big, flashy, high-end plays and often comes out on the right side of it. He has a lot of natural puck skills and vision and makes a lot of high-end plays with the puck. That Carbonneau is also a clear NHL-caliber skater who can beat defenders one-on-one at full flight gives confidence in how his game will translate up levels. His skating stride could be a little more compact and efficient, but he gets to where he needs to go on time. He’s strong on his stick, yet still has soft hands to protect pucks and make plays. The 6-1 winger from the QMJHL has some electrifying moments 1-on-1, revealing a high offensive ceiling. The NHL comparable for Justin Carbonneau is Timo Meier of the New Jersey Devils, an elite goal-scoring power forward. Although his Hockey IQ, poor defensive play, and top-end speed have raised concerns for his floor, he still projects as a middle-six scoring winger in the NHL and his draft stock projects as a top-15 pick.
