Joshua RAVENSBERGEN

Goalie
6’5/192
Right
Prince George Cougars/WHL

Related: Jack Ivankovic

16 Year old goaltender Prince George Cougars netminder Joshua Ravensbergen took the WHL by storm this season and has been a crucial piece to the Cougars’ resurgence and dominant season. The rookie goalie has compiled an impressive 21-4-0 record to go with a .920 save percentage. Initially, Ravensbergen was expected to back up Ty Young who is a Vancouver Canucks prospect but he has overtaken that starter gig. He’s got six shutouts in 31 games this season he’s been such a huge part of the Cougars revival. For a while, it was Prince George wondering if they’d ever be any good and now they are doing great. This 6’5 goalie is athletic and has everything you want in a goalie. Although goalies are difficult to project, when you look at him and his size and numbers, he’s such an important part of the Cougars team. It would not be a surprise if Joshua Ravensbergen is the first goalie off the board in the 2025 NHL draft.

Size/Strength Excellent
Skating Great
Anticipation Great
Positioning Great
Rebound Control Good
Glove Hand Good
Poise Great
Hockey Sense Excellent
Consistency Excellent

Strengths

1. His frame and exceptional speed in the crease are what bring him to the top of most goalie lists
2. It’s hard to find a big goaltender who moves with the accuracy and pace that Ravensbergen pulls off in his crease.
3. his ability to read net-front threats is top notch, he understands where those threats are and challenges or backs off from the shot location accordingly to make a back-door save as easy as possible.

Areas For Improvement

1. Biggest issues is he doesn’t get his stick on many low pad shots and instead kicks pucks back into dangerous areas for attackers
2. He also struggles with keeping pucks away from the slot

Scouting Report

Prince George Cougars netminder Joshua Ravensbergen took the WHL by storm last season and has been a crucial piece to the Cougars’ resurgence and dominant season. The rookie goalie has compiled an impressive 21-4-0 record to go with a .920 save percentage. He eventually overtook Ty Young (a Vancouver Canucks Prospect) for the Starting gig and notched 6 shutouts in 31 games. Joshua Ravensbergen’s frame and exceptional speed in the crease are what brings him to the top of most goalie lists. It’s hard to find a big goaltender who moves with the accuracy and pace that Ravensbergen pulls off in his crease. He carries both of these traits and also has very good positioning skills. He stays square to shooters and controls his angles well. Additionally, I really liked what I saw from Ravensbergen in regard to his ability to read net-front threats. He understands where those threats are and challenges or backs off from the shot location accordingly to make a back-door save as easy as possible. However, Ravensbergen struggles with keeping pucks away from the slot. He doesn’t get his stick on many low pad shots and instead kicks pucks back into dangerous areas for attackers. This guy is 6 foot 5, he’s so athletic, he’s a late 2006 is looking like a first-round pick next year. Goalies are very difficult to project and guys we thought would be first-rounders a year ago aren’t even on the radar now so things change. When you look at him and his size and his numbers, he’s such an important part of the Cougars team this season and just watching him he reminds me so much of Yaroslavl Askarov at the same age. Ravensbergen’s skill set makes him an asset on draft day, and his upside is tremendous. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ravensbergen go very high in the 2025 draft.

Skill: Big Athletic Goalie, with great lateral movement and stabile play

Style Comparison: Yaroslav Askorov

NHL Potential: Starting Goalie
